Dante:Hindsight

Dante: Hindsight

Take me for the fool I am,
Through a land of shattered dreams,
To the darker side of paradise
Where the air is filled with screams,
Twisted schemes,
And nothing is ever
As it seems…

Pull the wool over my eyes,
Blind me to the hate, the lies
That lurk here, silent,
Amidst the gutters,
In a land where the damned
Are the foolish ones that utter
                          Or stutter,
On that cheerless word:
Hope…

For hope
Has not once chance in hell,
And it seems that you
Must know that well
After leading me here,
Where it’s become painfully clear,
And as thick as the mud
From this unnatural second flood,
That you want nothing more,
Yet nothing less,
Than my blood.

Why that is,
I’ll never know,
For the skies grow dark
From the sooty snow…
Ashes of the fallen
Or supernatural pollen,
But it covers me,
           Smothers me;
Seems to have no target other;
Than me.

So I have you to thank
As my thoughts go blank,
Buried six feet above,
           (Not below)
In a realm without love,
By this tainted black snow
But I get the feeling
That it’s quite apropos,
This silent death of mine
That you’ve led me to.

For I followed you,
Without thought,
          Without question,
Walked to my death
At your slightest suggestion…
So I realize now
With my last grain of time,
Though you are to blame,
The fault is mine…

             The fault is mine.
