THE GOLDEN RULES

THE GOLDEN RULES

It was late I was on my way home from school,
I had just broken my Mums golden rules.
I had taken a short cut across the park,
Eyes followed me in the Vail of dark.
My Mum had always said keep the street lights in site,
No short cuts in the middle of the night.
Still when your young it’s natural to do your own thing,
Those eyes were burrowing deep into my skin.
I was only ten minutes away from home,
I wish I’d charged my Nokia mobile phone.
Strong hands wrestle me to the floor,
My jacket pulled, ripped then tore.
Evil eyes tore into my mind,
Flex tied around my neck as I pleaded and cried.
Tighter…Tighter…my eyes lost their spark,
I drifted away in the closing dark.
Anguish and pain for the parents when I’m found in the park,
If only I’d remembered the rules when going home in the dark.

Murder like talent, seems occasionally to run in families.
G.H.Lewes (1817-78)
