Winning the ""Us""

Winning the "Us"

I packed my clothes, shoes and hat.
I promised my friends I would be back.
I packed my make-up, bear and rug.
And gave everyone a big big hug.

I got in the van and pulled away.
I had no choice, I couldn't stay.
We got halfway down the street.
Then I heard a tapping beat.

I turned around to see the noise.
Running after the car was a few boys.
We stopped the van and I got out.
They looked like they were about to pout.

Then you stepped up from behind.
Your smile sweet and, oh, so kind.
You said you couldn't let me go.
You said you had to let me know.

You told me that if I didn't stay,
Your life would all melt away.
I felt so touched by your heartfelt words,
I started crying there on the curb.

You held me close, in your strong arms.
It's then that I felt safe from harm.
I knew I could not let you go.
I knew, then, that I loved you so.

You held me with a loving touch.
You told me you loved me very much.
I turned back to the van and smiled.
I knew my new home wouldn't come for miles.

I walked up to the front seat.
It's then that my heart skipped a beat.
My parents told me I could stay.
Those few words sure made my day.

I gathered my stuff from the back.
And grabbed my little pillow sack.
I kissed my little brother goodbye.
I knew that he would start to cry.

I told my parents thank-you so much.
They said it came on a little hunch.
That if I'd left, my life would end.
They said that now it would begin.

I sttod back, away from the car.
And you held me in your arms.
We waved goodbye to my family.
Now it is just you and me.

From that day on we were together.
We later vowed to stay this way forever.
We fell in love that evening.
Otherwise winning the "us" could not have been.
