immortality

Immortality is not for me,
I could not fathom why,
the peace of sleep
when death has come,
no judgement when I die,
perhaps at last
I'll find the rest
In dreams
of death and dark,
when life has gone
my body dust
and no-one left to cry.
Life has not denied me
my share of earthly pain,
and time has not forgiven,
nor God forsaken blame,
no-one here has loved me
and no-one knows my name,
it's best that I'm forgotten,
and gone to earth again.
