The Strap

by Mystyblu - Taurus

Peering through the windows,
moving the drapes to get a better view,
seeing the strap,
fly through the air,
landing heavily on the backside,
of the quivering child,
my heart stood still,
frozen in time I was,
unable to move or help,
the innocent babe cries lit up the sky,
blood dripping down his legs,
father caught in a maniacal rage,
beating, beating, beating,
his arms strained with his task,
but refused to stop,
in the corner sat the mother,
staring into space,
with a blank look on her face,
she left this world with the first blow,
finally the angel came,
laid a comforting hand on the child's brow,
led his spirit from the hell on earth,
to the white lights of heaven,
the father not realizing he was gone,
continued to beat the cold body,
mother returns to the world with a jolt,
screaming, wailing, tearing her clothes,
cursing herself for the lack of courage,
to stop the cycle,
sensation returns to me,
feet and legs work again,
I close the drapes and walk away.
