Seventh grade english Was when I first learned Be careful what you write If you think someone Might read And I can still see My teacher handing my Essay over to my mother And how she said.... It is very well written, But the content.... Well, the content is what Concerns me My mother didn't make it Past the first page Before a counselor Was brought in Maybe she got this from Watching t.v. Do you watch alot of t.v.? I nodded knowing full well That telling her I preferred Books over televion would Only raise more eyebrows On the way home my mom Asked what the original Assignment was I told her... "I was supposed to write about pioneer life through the eyes of a donkey" Why didn't you write about that? "Because it was stupid and beyond me" Well, sometimes you just have to dumb it down to make it in life I did better than that... I never wrote anything Beyond straight facts After that No poetry No short stories No personal essay And since then I have kept My words Between only A select few Editors who Don't give a damn Friends who Never speak of it And you who Seem to understandBirth sign: Aquarius
