Choices

by Brian Mackes - Aquarius

A jury decided, a judge presided…
The whole thing happened so fast.
Now spending my years with fellows of peers,
Retracing the steps of my past.

Ignoring the voices, I made the choices,
Hoping that I’d get away.
But just as I thought, I finally got caught…
And now the price I must pay.

Stripped of my pride, I now reside…
Away from my family and friends.
In a tiny cell, a place we call hell…
Where our hopes and dreams meet their ends.

And all that remains are the heartaches and pain,
And the feeling of deep down despair.
Not to mention the stress and the tension,
That lingers deep in the air.

I was in denial, at first for awhile…
But now everything’s crystal clear.
And placing the blame won’t ease the pain,
Of wasting your life away here.

Your daily decisions make up the provisions,
In every aspect of your life.
So don’t rob or steal, do drugs or deal…
And that’s just my advice.

So for your sake, learn from our mistakes…
Before you make some of your own.
And waste years of your life, paying the price…
In a cell of this hell we call home!
