Your body so expansive...
elongated...
the perfect playground for sleepy
fingers and dreamy tongue...
Having learned you, I found I was afraid of nothing.
Finding you beside me so often like
waking
somewhere far...far...away.
And hoping not to go back.
Life takes us funny places though...
All those late night conversations.
Mapping out future and strategy.
Whispered kisses...
And I miss yous....
You saying: I only wanted to protect you.
Me: running miles down mid-nite streets
For only a moment in your arms...
Growing up wasn't easy. Not for either of us.
Hand in hand we were though...Paths crossed...or was it stars?
We danced in the rain...
We faced each others fears...
I met your great-grandmother...
We did it with a dog watching...
You talked to me until it was time to go to school.
You talked to me through 3 a.m. feedings...
when no one else was around.
You talked me through an abusive marriage.
And yes...you have even talked me through this. This.
A life I would have never chosen...
Did I tell you?
I would have married you, had you asked...sooner...a beach
wedding. I had picked out the dress long ago with you in mind...I wanted to be barefoot as a symbol of my freedom...for marrying you would have become the greatest freedom I have ever known...
You Love,
Have given me strength...
You have compared me to a rainbow...
You have taught me forgiveness...
And you have taught me to Love...
Unconditionally.
I think about this now...
Aware I will sit across from you
in some stale courtroom...
I think about this now...
As words trickle down around me.
Jealous rage...
Psychotic...
Delusional...
Detectives taking crime seen pics
In my living room.
You have described this as
the most tragic ending imaginable.
Telling me to stay strong. Admitting to loving obsessively.
Offering one last I love you.
Lost...afraid...
Trying to piece together what occurred.
A waking nightmare for you.
I think about all this now.
You and me as I wash the last
Of the blood from my driveway.
Making waterspray rainbows.
Searching for something of the girl you loved...
So dearly.
Empty...
Bitter...
Hopeless...
Alone...
All you had worked so hard to
Protect me from.
I wonder if you could love me now.
