Infidelity couldn't fuck us.
remember when we
found out we were doing
the same thing
to the wrong person
at the same time?
we found we were
united even in weakness
and only honesty and truth
could pull us through.
Distance couldn't separate us.
instead we found solace
in letters and phone lines
and knowing that somehow
the rain would bring me
back to you
you know i
still listen
to that tape you
sent me
turning it up loud
when you're not home.
Swords and blood couldn't kill us.
remember when
you knelt there
sane enough for me
to touch your face
i kissed you then
whispered i love you
cursing the blood
on my hands
when i drew away
it seems as though
we have made it through
everything
that would have caused
weaker lovers
to separate.
which makes it
so sad now
to realize
how easy it is for the little things
to slowly chip away
exposing the edges
of long forgotten
insecurities
bringing back
old vices
and methods
of escape.
