On the Run Pt. III

by jaydee - Taurus

she remembers mother’s apron’s touch
and the smell of her old backyard.

she remembers the skies over her house
and the fountain in the Square.

she remembers mother more and more,
and the worldly possessions of honor.

she remembers the starch of the air afterwards
and the standing still of the trees.

she remembers the half-closed door
and her sister in blood on her knees.

she remembers mother.
she remembers everything except
a way to forget.
