Good Grief

by Beth - Scorpio

I have no reason to mourn you
You are not dead
And yet-

I stood bare foot in a cold drive way
a plastic flower tucked pathetically behind my ear
my eyes dry, my voice mute
you just stood there
with that dumb grin on your face
and your arms feel empty though I fill the space
between them
the quiet sound of tires crunching
echo the sound that forms in my soul
I cannot lift my hand to wave
it is as heavy as lead

I stood bare foot in that cold drive way
a plastic flower tucked pathetically behind my ear
and watched the sun come up
alone
and yet
you are not dead
I have no reason to mourn you
