Leonora

by Matthias L. - Capricorn

she heard the rain
sung across the river
her laughter rang pure
but she knew already
how it would end
knew she would need
an alibi

and so she drank her wine
one sip faster for a second
to push aside the whispers, to
pull the trigger

and then there was only
night to hear
a facade of the neon dreams
still too young to wander
the streets at 9:00 p.m.

in turning around
she blew a kiss to the
clouds, a wink to the water,
and danced to the
sound of the dead

a solitary walk
and then there were
only seven words for her to whisper
life and her stage
drawn into curtains.
