Danny Revisited

by Twan - Aries

*Perhaps some of you remember a poem I wrote almost 10 years ago (Jesus, where does the time go) about the first boy I had this monstrous crush on way the hell back in H.S. This is a version of that poem, only written differently and updated.*

It's time to make a stand, kid
Time to wash my hands, kid
of whatever hold you have on me.

You may think you still hold all the cards
but that changed on Pride night 2004
When you and Matt, MY FRIEND, made plans
And suddenly I could see.

Castro jumps on stage to make a speech
Him I paid no heed
I wasted some years of my life
on my noble steed

Running my sword into a door that wouldn't open
That actually sounds kind of dirty
But someone should have said something about
well, you know.

Hell, kid, maybe even you
could have shown me the way
Look out, run!
Twan's gonna blow!

Yeah, I found you cute. You knew this.
THAT a blind man could see
But wait! Black guys and Asians can't date!
Foolish me.

All home it came to crash
I wondered what I did wrong
But preordained bullshit can only lose for so long
Well, I left later that year
None of my friends I did see.
Hopefully these letters didn't enter your lexicon:
PNP.

I told Emmanuel how I felt
yet I think he played me for a bit
And what went down in Borders
Statue of limitations...shit!

No, I never got to touch him
Matt probably did
But I'm not jealous
It only cost him ten quid.

Thanks for letting me embarrass myself
I truly do appreciate
the way this horseshit was handled
of that there's no debate.

One day I may return
to run the halls at Lincoln Park
What's the difference?
You still can't see me in the dark.

I'll run my hand over the mural
And hark back to that time
How things have changed
I drink my beer with lime.

You left me twisting in the wind
On Valentine's you gave me the shiv
But you see, I'm a much better man now
Because, well, I forgive.

Or do I?
